Readers may reacquaint themselves about triangles in the 10th ed. of Technical Analysis of Stock Trends. Chapter 8.   Prices are in a triangle — or rather breaking down out of a triangle.  This is not good news.  While there is substantial similarity in the charts there is another interpretation  possible of the S&P  chart.

Bungee markets. Don’t jump….

Enjoy the view.  You are looking at history.  Thousand point days in the Dow, doubling and tripling volatility and trucks backing up to the market to carry away the profits of computer programs.  High frequency traders clearly caused much of the volatility.  Here is the way it is done:  program monitors market and sees that irresistable momentum is developing and goes with the trend — mostly short here.  It was easy to diagnose.  All you had to do was watch the rhythm of transactions.  Seamless trading without a pause tells you that the machines are doing it — along with some experience in computer trading of your own.

alpha beta gamma zeta…?

We believe that we are in the zeta wave (not labeled others labeled) which has  proven profitable for us on many occasions.  Given the extraordinary volatility lately all analyses are subject to question.  Right now this wave has broken the downtrend lines and is being tested.  We don’t expect another test of the bottom at the 200 day moving average but only time will tell and that tell should come soon.  We have started scaling back into the market.

1000 point days and super moons…

Of all the reasons advanced for the recent sell-off, the pundits have failed to mention  the super moon which maxed out the 31st.  As good an explanation as any and better than most.  To waste time trying to explain the mini-crash is to take your eye off the ball.  Instead let us analyze how we are going to get the ball out of the rough.  Friday’s 1000 point range can offer some clues.  The shape of the candle is interpreted as a “hammer”  as in, the market is hammering out a bottom.

To remind you of the Chinese curse:  may you live in interesting times.  Interesting enough for you?  A day after the biggest day in history with trillions of value being casually erased by unfeeling robots.  Robots?  Yes sadly, robots.  The rhythm of the trading clearly revealed that trading was driven by robots.
